Antanas Mickevicius MD, PhD, has over 10 years of clinical experience in upper GI and bariatric surgery. Initially trained in bariatric surgery at the Sahlgrenska university hospital (Gothenburg, Sweden), he underwent further advanced bariatric surgery training at Whittington hospital (London, UK).
Prof Antanas Mickevicius is presently working as a consultant upper GI and bariatric surgeon in Lithuania and the United Kingdom. He conducts regular bariatric clinics in both countries and personally ensures the highest standards of safety, the best quality of preoperative preparation and postoperative follow-up.
Prof Antanas Mickevicius is the lead bariatric and upper GI surgeon at Kauno Klinikos university hospital (Kaunas, Lithuania) as well as works as a consultant bariatric surgeon at Royal Stoke university hospital (Stoke on Trent, UK). Dr Mickevicius trains other surgeons in the field of laparoscopic and bariatric surgery, he is a member of the Lithuanian Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery and International Federation of Surgery for Obesity (IFSO).
Dr Mickevicius performs different bariatric surgery procedures, including Gastric Bypass, Gastric Sleeve, Gastric Plication. You don’t need NHS permission, but it would be wise to apply for NHS prior-authorisation. So you will be confident that you are eligible for reimbursement.
If GP refuses to refer you for further diagnostics or treatment, but treatment abroad was justified by European doctor, the NHS might compensate such costs for treatment abroad.

How Do I Know If I Need Weight Loss Surgery?
Weight loss surgery will help you if:
